Bareun's (bareun) morphological analysis is free for research and non-commercial use.
A paid license is required for commercial services or any commercial purpose.
The Korean spell checker is a separate paid service. On the cloud (api.bareun.ai),
anyone can try it free for up to 50,000 word units (eojeol).

Is morphological analysis really free?
Yes. Individuals, companies, schools, news organizations, and others can use it free of charge for research purposes. Bareun was built jointly by Baikal AI and the Korea Press Foundation, and it powers the morphological analysis engine of the Foundation's news big-data analysis system, BIGKINDS.
What counts as commercial (paid) use?
Scope of commercial services
Commercial services include not only commercial offerings but also any continuously operating service aimed at users, even if it is non-commercial. In other words, if the feature is used on an ongoing basis for anything other than research, it is commercial.
Commercial research is also paid
Research with a commercial purpose is also paid. For example, after basic research is finished, creating large-scale training data through secondary processing may fall under this. In that case, obtain a paid license before use.
Is the spell checker free too?
The spell checker is a paid service by default. However, it is free for research purposes.
The spell checking service is provided on the cloud (api.bareun.ai). If you want to install it
in an air-gapped network, you need to go through a separate contract process.

Free for research purposes
Both morphological analysis and spell checking are free for research purposes. Submit an application stating the research title, purpose, methods and content, expected outcomes, acknowledgment, and whether the research will be made public. We will approve it after review.
Do the installed edition and the cloud have different licenses?
- Installed edition (on-premises): The freely installable Bareun includes only the morphological analyzer. Installing the spell checker yourself requires a paid contract. Contact bareun.license@bareun.ai.
- Cloud: Provides both morphological analysis and spell checking. Usage beyond the free tier of 50,000 eojeol is paid. Once logged in, you can check usage statistics in real time.
