Registering the Bareun MCP server in Cursor
When you connect the Bareun MCP server to Cursor, the agent calls Bareun directly while working with code and documents to perform Korean morphological analysis and spell checking.
What you need
- A Bareun API key: For issuing keys and usage, see Using the cloud.
- The endpoint address: for Bareun Cloud it is
https://api.bareun.ai:443/mcp. If you installed the Korean spell checker yourself, use/mcpon that server's address (for example,http://localhost:5656/mcp). MCP is provided only by Bareun builds that include the Korean spell checker. An installation for morphological analysis only has no/mcp.
How to register
Add it to the project's .cursor/mcp.json (or the global ~/.cursor/mcp.json).
{
"mcpServers": {
"bareun": {
"url": "https://api.bareun.ai:443/mcp",
"headers": { "api-key": "YOUR_API_KEY" }
}
}
}
Register only the address, with no header.
{
"mcpServers": {
"bareun": {
"url": "https://api.bareun.ai:443/mcp"
}
}
}
On the Settings → MCP screen, click Login/Sign in next to the bareun server and a browser opens.
Enter your Bareun API key to connect. Once you sign in, the credentials are kept.
Verifying the connection
- If the
bareunserver and its tools (analyze_syntax,tokenize,list_pos_tags,correct_grammar) appear on the Settings → MCP screen and the indicator is green, you are connected. - If you ask the agent (Composer) something like "Correct this sentence with Bareun", it calls Bareun.
Troubleshooting
- Is the indicator red? Check the JSON syntax of
.cursor/mcp.json, and refresh the server in Settings → MCP. - Can't see the tools? Check that the address ends with
/mcp. - Permission error (401)? With the header method, check that the key is correct. With OAuth, check that you signed in again.
Frequently asked questions
Q. Should I use the header method or OAuth login?
Both authenticate with the same Bareun API key. The header method is simpler for connecting quickly, and OAuth login is convenient if you do not want to leave the key in a config file.
Q. Should I put it in the global or the project settings?
To use it across several projects, put it in the global ~/.cursor/mcp.json. To use it in one project only, put it in that project's .cursor/mcp.json.
